About Gatwick North Terminal

Gatwick Airport North Terminal is the airport’s second terminal and was built in the 1980s. It has been considerably extended in recent decades and has the world’s largest air passenger bridge connecting the aircraft piers to the main building. Since the expansion of the terminal, Gatwick Airport has become the world’s busiest single run way airport with over 40 million passengers a year.

Currently all flights depart and arrive from the North Terminal, however it usually serves a variety of major airlines including easyJet, Emirates, Thomson Airways, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, Aeroflot, Icelandair, Vueling, Royal Air Maroc, Tianjin Airlines and West Jet amongst others. easyJet is the airport’s biggest airline and carries more than 19 million passengers every year to destinations including Barcelona (Gatwick’s most popular destination), Paris, Amsterdam and Tel Aviv.

 

Travelling to Gatwick’s North Terminal

You have plenty of options when it comes to travelling to the North Terminal whether you want to drive directly to the airport, take the train or catch a bus. Whichever you choose, we recommend that you plan your journey in advance give yourself the greatest chance of finding the best prices and avoiding delays.

Gatwick Airport is the best-connected airport by train in the country and is well integrated into the national network, giving you easy access no matter where you are travelling from. The airport train station is located at the South Terminal, but you can easily transfer to the North Terminal on the free monorail connecting the two terminals. It is right next to the entrance to the airport train station and takes just 2 minutes to reach the North Terminal.

There are also some fantastic parking options at Gatwick North Terminal. It is a great flexible option, especially for those early morning flights and can work out much cheaper than public transport for families and groups. Make sure you book in advance and check ahead for traffic delays to ensure you can be at the airport with 3 hours to spare. This will give you plenty of time to make it through security and to your gate.

 

Gatwick North Parking

For the budget conscious there are some great value Park and Ride services located just off-site with shuttles transferring you to the terminal in less than 10 minutes. For a bit more convenience, you can opt for a Meet and Greet service that allows you to drop your car off directly at the North Terminal and pick it up in the same spot on your return. Or, for the ultimate convenience, you can park on-site at one of Gatwick’s own car parks and walk just a couple of minutes to check-in.

At the North Terminal

Gatwick is one of the UK’s biggest and busiest airports and as a result you will find no shortage of shops, restaurants, entertainment and facilities on offer. It is a good idea to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. Not only will this give you more time to explore the facilities on offer at the airport, it will also ensure that you can relax before your flight, even if for you that just means sitting and reading your book!

You can give yourself extra time by purchasing a fast pass through security and spend some time at one of the North Terminal’s lounges, restaurants or cafes.

 

North Terminal Premium Security

You can make the most of your time at the North Terminal Gatwick by opting for a fast track pass through security. This is a great choice, especially during busy periods when you can end up waiting in a queue for long periods. It is the ideal start to a special trip and costs just £5 per person when booked online or £6 when booked on the day.

There is a great selection of lounges available at the North Terminal including My Lounge, Club Aspire, No. 1 and the Clubrooms. Typically, you can expect complimentary Wi-Fi, a buffet, drinks, and newspapers and magazines, as well as comfortable seating areas and helpful waiting staff.

Lounges are not just for business travellers with everyone being welcome to make use of their facilities. You can book access online ahead of your arrival or simply show your membership card at the entrance if you are already signed up.

Duty Free at the North Terminal

At Gatwick North Terminal duty free you will find a range of fashion, electrical, food and drink, souvenir and book shops typically found at UK airports. You can purchase all the essentials for your holiday and more including perfumes, alcohol, cosmetics, tobacco, clothes, chocolate and much more.

The North Terminal contains big names, such as Dixons travel, Accessorize, Boots, Fatface, M&S Simply Food, Jo Malone, Dune, havaianas, Rituals, Superdry, Sunglass Hut, Ted Baker, Whittard and World Duty Free.

You also have the Reserve & Collect option if you want to save time for relaxing at the airport. Simply take a look on the shop’s website, choose your item and give the shop a call. They can then reserve the item for you behind the counter and all you need to do is go pay and pick it up. This will give you more time to simply enjoy a nice meal or relax with a coffee and a view of the runway.

 

Food and Drink at the North Terminal

You will find a good selection of places to grab a snack, a meal or simply a drink at Gatwick North Terminal, whether you want to sit in or have a take-away. Enjoy a coffee and cake at Costa or Starbucks, a sandwich at Pret a Manger or M&S Simply Food or a full meal and a pint at The Red Lion Wetherspoon or sushi and other delicious Asian specialties at Wagamama.

There is also plenty of seating in the North Terminal departures area if you simply want to buy a sandwich, wrap or salad from Boots or M&S. Most places also have a take-out option which is slightly cheaper than opting to eat in.

 

Facilities at Gatwick North Terminal

North Terminal Gatwick Airport is well-equipped with all the facilities you need to ensure your holiday begins and ends without a hitch. The facilities include:

 

Bureau de change

You will find a bureau de change both before and after security for those last-minute money exchanges. Don’t forget that exchanging money at the airport can be expensive and is best done before you arrive.

 

Information Desk

You will find an Information Desk on Level 1 of the Check-in area and in the Arrivals area for all your questions about the airport.

 

Internet

There are internet kiosks in the Check-in area including a printing area provided by Surfbox, which is also available after the security section. You will also find internet hotspots in the Departure lounge and in Arrivals.

 

Prayer Room

There is a chapel and prayer room in the Check-in area near the Hampton by Hilton exit.

 

Cash Machines

You will find a cash machine at the Moneycorp bureau de change in the Departures lounge.

 

Kid’s Play Area

Located next to Dixons is a great entertainment area to help keep the children entertained while you wait for your flight.

 

Mobile Phone Charging

There are charging points between the London News Company and World Duty Free which is free of charge.

 

Special Assistance

There is a special assistance area in the Departures area with a dedicated waiting area for those in need of special assistance.
