There are currently nine trains per hour to the Manchester Airport train station from the city, including services from Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales. There are services between Manchester Airport and Crew, for connections to the south, and Manchester Piccadilly, for connections to the north. The most frequent services are between Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport, followed by regular trains to Leeds, York, Doncaster, Sheffield, Blackpool North, and Scotland.

The Manchester Metrolink is a light rail network which was extended from St Werburgh's Road to Manchester Airport. The Metrolink station was built adjacent to the Manchester Airport train station, and serves as the terminus of the Airport Line. Trams run between Manchester Airport and Victoria tram stop every 12 minutes. An early morning service runs from 3:19 – 6:00 am every 20 minutes.

HS2 Services in Manchester

Although not yet available, plans are in place to build a HS2 station at Manchester Airport, which will improve the airport’s accessibility. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority redevelopment plans around the airport include high speed rail networks which will significantly shorten journey times and help reduce overcrowding.

HS2 will be integrated into existing rail networks at the airport, as well as Northern Powerhouse Rail. In addition, two new HS2 tracks to Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly will create space for additional train lines to Crewe and Stockport, providing options for more frequent local and regional services.
